Using Stochastic Frontier Approach to Analyze Poverty in the Community of West African States (ECOWAS)

Résumé

This paper aims to determine the capacity of ECOWAS countries to improve the standard of living of the population with the available resources using an income frontier over the period 2000 to 2018. Three poverty indicators are used to measure the capacity of countries to reduce income to improve the standard of living of the population. The results show that in the short term the ECOWAS countries are less poor than in the long term. A comparison of poverty indicators shows that countries are less poor with the overall poverty indicator than with the multidimensional poverty index.
