D. Ouedraogo, Korotimi Traoré, S. Zio, B. Tarnagda, Sibiri Nebié, Flibert Guira, C. Parkouda, A. SavadogoThis study aims to evaluate the effect of soaking three types of flour, based on white and yellow hybrid corn 'Zea mays (L.)' and millet 'Pennisetum glaucum (L.)', on physicochemical parameters. The soaking times were 0; 6; 12; 24; 48; 72, and 168 hours for the corn varieties, and 0 and 6 hours for the millet. Two corn flours from grains soaked for 168 hours were produced, one of which was marked by the addition of potash. In total, 18 flours were produced. The analyzed physicochemical parameters showed a significant decrease, particularly after 168 hours of soaking. The minimum and maximum values were observed in the pH of white flour (4.73%) and the ash content of yellow flour (75%), respectively. Similarly, the protein, lipid, and carbohydrate contents decreased significantly. A significant decrease in carbohydrate content of yellow flour (77.28%) is observed. Adding potash further re...

Nutritional and sensory properties of infant complementary porridges supplemented with detar fruit pulp, monkey bread fruit pulp, and moringa leaf powder
Aminata Sanou, Flibert Guira, Abdelsalam Doutoum, M. Drabo, Mamadou Sanou, M. Traoré, Charles Parkouda, A. SavadogoIt is a stark reality that children, particularly infants between 6 and 24 months old, in the arid and semi-arid tropics remain the most vulnerable worldwide to malnutrition, underscoring. This study then aimed to develop complementary infant porridges supplemented with Detarium microcarpum fruit pulp (5–24%), Adansonia digitata fruit pulp (0–10%), and Moringa oleifera leaves (0–5%), nutrient-dense and drought-adapted plants that thrive in the semi-arid tropics and serve as vital food resources for local communities. Accordingly, five infant flours were formulated and tested as porridge by 44 pairs of mothers and children aged between 6 and 24 months. Proximate composition and amino acids profile of the formulated flours were determined using standard methods. The newly formulated flours demonstrated gross nutritional compositions and energy values (420–429 kcal/100 g dry matter) in line...

Nutritional, physicochemical, and phenolic profiles of seeds and seed fats from three native oleaginous Combretum Loefl. species in West Africa
A. Bougma; R.B.S. Bazie; A. Sere; J.T. Ouilly; S. Bado; I.H.N. BassoleCombretum adenogonium, Combretum glutinosum, and Combretum paniculatum, are indigenous oleaginous species of
West Africa. This study was designed to assess the nutritional, physicochemical, and phenolic profiles of seeds and seed fats from three
native oleaginous Combretum Loefl. species in West Africa. The AOAC and AOCS methods were used to determine the nutritional
composition and physicochemical characteristics of the seeds and seed fats. The seeds of C. paniculatum had the highest fat (42.20 %),
protein (26.50 %), and ash (4.17 %) contents. The dominant fatty acids identified in the seed fats of the three species were oleic acid
(38.31-8.16 %), palmitic acid (27.52-22.48 %), myristic acid (23.82-11.04 %), and linoleic acid (19.15-8.46 %). C. paniculatum seed fat
had the highest saponification value (218.19 mg KOH/g), oxidative stability index (3.78h), and phenolic content (15.7...

Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Internal Migration in Burkina Faso
Gansaonré Raogo Noël, Dahani DramaneMigration is a complex demographic phenomenon. Its dynamics can be explained by several factors whose spatial and temporal evolution is not easy to control. That is why this article aims to understand the factors of migration from a spatiotemporal perspective to fill the gaps in the literature. The aim of this article is to analyse the spatiotemporal dynamics of internal migration factors to deduce the zones of origin and destination in Burkina Faso. To do this, several types of data were used. These included secondary, spatial, statistical and survey data. The results of this study show that the influence of internal migration factors is uneven. The spatial distribution of internal migration factors follows a north-south gradient, with favourable conditions in the south. In fact, the northern part is characterised by a large population exodus, with around 42.6% of outgoing internal migr...

Characterisation and management of solid household waste in the municipality of Ziniaré, Burkina Faso
Dramane DahaniSolid household waste management is a major concern for the commune of
Ziniar?. It is faced with a significant increase in waste due to its strong
demographic growth and proximity to the capital Ouagadougou. The
municipality is faced with the abandonment of waste collected by operators
in abandoned quarries or waterways, the proliferation of illegal dumps in
the town and the absence of a treatment and recovery system. Yet waste
management is only sustainable if we have precise knowledge of the types of
waste produced. Hence the need to analyze the characteristics of the waste
generated in the commune of Ziniar?, the subject of this study. The
methodology consisted in collecting quantitative and qualitative data,
combined with direct observation in the field; collecting waste in the
various sectors of the town and characterizing it according to...

Assessment of the CO2 sequestration and emission potential of the Kari classified forest, Burkina Faso
Gansaonré Raogo Noël, Sawadogo B. JulienThe aim of this study was to assess changes in the CO2 sequestration and emission capacities of the Kari classified forest. To this end, a study of land use dynamics was carried out using Landsat images from 2000, 2010 and 2019. To assess wood potential and CO2 emissions, a forest inventory was carried out by sampling. The data on vegetation dynamics and wood potential show that more than 90% of the vegetation in this forest has remained stable from 2000 to 2019. However, significant degradation of the vegetation has been recorded in shrub savannahs, tree savannahs and gallery forests. The assessment of wood potential indicates that the forest is stable, balanced and in full recovery. The forest constitutes a carbon dioxide reservoir, with approximately 2.35 MtCO2eq sequestered in 2019. The assessment also reveals that the degradation of the vegetation has led to significant CO2 emission...
